This is the 12th post in the February Photo Collage Festival, and the third post of six that will answer the question someone asked when I posted this photograph (follow the link to see it) – What happened to these kids? Today is the turn of my cousin Jan Evans Peterson. You probably think I am going to tell you she went on to have an illustrious career with the Alvin Ailey dance troupe, but no, she did not. I asked her how long she danced and she replied “let’s see, started around 13, stopped around 25. I danced somewhat with Shashu born and a teeny bit after Kamau.”
I believe there was also some modeling and transcribing of court sessions. Jan eventually moved to Canada and, along with Leonard, raised 4 wonderful, smart and talented children. She has 4 grandchildren. Jan now spends her time doing what needs to be done. This includes, but is not limited to, keeping up with her far flung family, copying and sending me family photos via email, posting inspiring quotes on fb and moving to a higher plane in a spiritual sense. She still wears her magnificent collection of bangles.
What a great picture! Jan looks like a cool lady.
Jan is a very cool lady.
My question is… What ever happened to all those years? LOL
By the time we were slowed down enough to ask, they were gone!
I just LOVE that photo of Jan – how inspiring!
Love her dance photo!! She definitely looks like she could have danced forever!! Love how family comes first. She is very inspiring and lovely too!!!
Alex and Yvette, I think that leap is inspiring too. I can’t imagine ever going so high myself.
What a great new collage..,you’re the collage guru;-) Jan sounds like a fascinating lady and a great person to have for your cousin. What an amazing leap she’s doing there! And how lucky to have everyone’s support for your photos and stories.
Pauleen, I know how lucky I am to have family support for my work. The first question they usually ask when they know I’m working on a project is “Do you need any photos?” I couldn’t do it if everybody wanted to remain private. I only saw the leaping photo recently and I was very impressed. Jan was so much younger than I was in those days and I have to admit I wasn’t paying enough attention to her life back then. Amazing how the passage of time makes the years that seemed so wide in youth. very narrow as we age.
She does look like an Ailey dancer. Her form is so easy and exquisite. It’s so fascinating to me, the paths not taken.
I wonder about those paths too, Angella.
I’m sorry I never saw Jan dance but so happy to have these photos.
Love the great photo. I remember Jan giving a group of us dance lessons in my basement on Archdale. Awesome story!
Hey Kris,
Everyone had. Awesome kids but Warren. Lol
Warren had awesome kids! Did I forget to mention that? I will have to correct it.
I would love to hear the story of the dance lessons in the basement.
Kris. You did say that!!! Thank-you. I was just poking fun. I loved Cameron’s comment. Lol
I went and looked to be sure and was relieved to find I had. 🙂
