I just came across this interview that Studs Terkel did with my father in 1967. He talks about his first book, The Black Messiah. There are about two minutes of a black woman talking about what if Jesus came back and then the interview. The link is below.
Reverend Albert B. Cleage, Jr. discusses his book “the Black Messiah”
This presentation is really interesting…lots of new information to me! Your father had extraordinary Biblical knowledge. Thanks for sharing this interview here!
Thanks for listening! I’m glad you got some new information. I was so surprised to find it online this morning.
Thank you for sharing, Kris. Your father’s powerful voice brings back memories. He was a great leader. I wish you could share this with black churches. Their responsibility that he talks about is especially important now. My best friend, Sharon Norde (Tenay) and her husband Cecil were members of The Shrine of the Black Madonna in Detroit. I believe she had a copy of The Black Messiah. She died two years ago this month. Take care.
I just found a Sheed and Ward copy at http://www.abebooks.com! They have a few more.
I’m glad you found a copy! I still have my original one, signed by my father. I seem to have lent out my copy of Black Christian Nationalism though.
