Corner, Washington and Illinois Streets, Indianapolis, Indiana

This undivided-back postcard was postmarked 1909, but probably depicts the Washington and Illinois Streets intersection around 1906. The view is looking northeast. Pedestrians, streetcars and delivery wagons crowd the intersection. Readable Business and advertising signs on the north side of Washington Street include: J. M. REED JEWELER (38 West Washington Street); COCA COLA; LITTLE MINISTER; THE HANOVER SHOE; TAYLOR CARPET CO. (26-28 West Washington Street); HUDER DRUGS (22 West Washington Street); WASSON’S (H. P. Wasson & Co., 6-20 West Washington Street); and BADGER FURNITURE CO. (14-20 East Washington Street). FERGER’S DRUG STORE sits at the southeast corner of this intersection.
The streetcar at the left has N-WESTERN on the side. The car to the left of that one has BLAKE on the front and PROSPECT on the side. The car that is turning has COLLEGE on the front. The car in back of the COLLEGE car has MICHIGAN on the front and the car behind the COLLEGE car has BLAKE on the front. The car at the right has ILLINOIS on the side.
